Steven Degelsmith, Ph.D. seeks to improve the performance
of an organization through raising the interpersonal effectiveness
of its employees. He provides training, coaching and consulting
for managers and employees to help them improve handling conflict
and difficult behavior, dealing with stress, and managing anger
and emotions in the workplace. He also works with organizations
to reduce their risk of violence and trauma by offering expertise
in assessment and implementation of violence prevention programs,
and trauma recovery.
Some of the organizations Steve has worked with include the VA Hospital
in West Los Angeles, LA County Dept. of Public Works, So. Cal. Gas
Co., Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Managed Health Network, Loyola Marymount
University, The Los Angeles Zoo, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Bank
of America, Union Bank of California, Aids Project Los Angeles,
The City of Culver City, The City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Unified
School District, International Truck & Engine, and Allstate
Insurance.
Educated and trained in psychological systems, communications theory,
psychology of the workplace, stress, anger and violence, Dr. Degelsmith
received his Masters degree in Education from the University
of Southern California, and his Doctorate in Psychology at the California
Graduate Institute in Los Angeles. Dr. Degelsmith has worked in
the employee assistance field for over 15 years providing on-site
employee counseling and team interventions to troubled workgroups.
His background includes team building retreats, team/employee conflict
resolution, wellness promotion programs (i.e., stress management),
managing emotions/anger at work, and preventing violence in the
workplace. Steve is trained in critical incident stress management
and serves on the crisis response team at Cedars Sinai Medical Center
in Los Angeles and at Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena. Until recently
he has been practicing psychotherapy in the San Fernando Valley.
He has been a licensed therapist since 1986.
In addition to his work as a consultant and trainer, Steve is an
adjunct faculty member at California State University, Northridge
and has taught courses at Antioch University in the past. He is
an active member of the American Society of Training and Development,
having recently served as Vice President of the Los Angeles Chapter.
